STILL is a body of work by Deptford-based artist Nina Parsons, exploring the poetry of domestic scenes and objects, finding beauty in the stillness of everyday spaces where human presence is implied but not depicted.
Parsons studied fine art at Goldsmiths University, graduating in 2022 and co-founding Open 205 the following year, now an online platform dedicated to showcasing emerging artists. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries and exhibition spaces throughout London and beyond.
In describing her practice Nina explains, “I am drawn to the formal elements of painting - particularly the relationship between shape, color, and composition. By flattening perspective and reimagining objects as planes of color, I work toward a form of abstraction that maintains a connection to the familiar while transforming it into something new. The interplay between recognizable forms and their abstracted counterparts creates a visual tension that interests me deeply.”
“The title ‘STILL’ for this collection carries multiple meanings - referencing both the quiet nature of the domestic scenes I paint as well as my ongoing artistic exploration. I am still developing, still questioning why certain objects and spaces captivate me, and still discovering what my work ultimately wants to become. Through these paintings, I invite viewers to experience the familiar with fresh eyes - to see the extraordinary in ordinary spaces and to find meaning in moments of stillness.”
