SHAPE & SHADE was an exhibition featuring the work of Peter Cox, an artist living and working in South London. Peter began making artwork after an eye operation, when he found the world a much brighter place, filled with brilliant colour.

Starting with Portraiture, Peter experimented with strong colours, not fretting about measurement and accuracy. One artist advised that he “paint like a millionaire – big brushes and bags of paint.” He moved from oil to acrylic to pastel, and eventually into Life drawing to improve his technique. “Clothing covers a multitude of sins on portrait figures but nude figures have to be accurate to be believable”, says Cox. Peter continues Portrait & Life Drawing classes and exhibitions at the Mall Galleries with the Hesketh Hubbard Art Society and various art groups.
